Australians to celebrate their own thanksgiving day
Australia will celebrate thanksgiving day on May 14th, 2005 following the success of last years celebration, which was launched by His Excellency, the Governor-General of Australia, Major Michael Jeffery, on 11 February 2004 at Government House, Canberra. His Excellency explained that Australia Day, held on January 26th each year, and the National Day of Thanksgiving, are different and celebrate different things.
*
Thanksgiving Day is to celebrate the communities faith while Australia Day represents the formation of The Commonwealth of Australia by the co-operation between the states and the inauguration of Federal Parliament.*
Australia, like the USA, is a federation where the states have the main power and the federal government exercises power on their behalf.*
The National Day of Thanksgiving is an opportunity to give thanks for the democratic freedoms and lifestyle Australians share with each other and to pray for those in less fortunate circumstances.*
