Friday February 25, 10:38 AM
The World Prays For Pope John Paul II
Prayers are being said around the world today for Pope John Paul II.He was taken to hospital in Rome yesterday for the second time in a month, where he had surgery to help him breathe more easily. The 84-year-old Pontiff is on a respirator but not in intensive care.
Doctors described his condition this morning as stable
The Vatican said the operation, which took around 30 minutes, was a complete success.
A spokesman said the Pope consented to the operation, and spent the night in his own hospital room - not in intensive care.
The Pope was rushed to Rome's Gemelli hospital suffering from breathing problems and fever.
He had been taken to the same hospital with similar flu-like conditions on February 1.
He spent 10 days in hospital and the Vatican had previously said he was making a steady recovery.
